As you begin to age, volume is lost within the face, and skin looses elasticity.
Repetitive and hyperactive movement of the muscles in the face cause skin to crease, eventually etching wrinkles in the skin (I.e the lines / crows feet around our eyes or between the brow in the frown line). To help treat and prevent this, anti-wrinkle medicine is injected at very small doses into the specific muscles of the face that are causing the contraction of the muscle and wrinkles. Days or weeks after injection, these muscles begin to relax, smoothing the overlying skin, reducing and preventing wrinkles from appearing and forming. Areas commonly treated are the frown, forehead, crows feet, upper lip lines.
Treatments last 3-4 months, or longer with repeated doses.
Dermal fillers are used to replace facial volume which has been lost due the natural ageing process.
The Dermal filler that is used in clinic is hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is based on a sugar molecule that exists naturally in our body and cells, known as Hyaluronan. One of the functions of Hyaluronan is to bind to water and regulate the water balance in the skin. When dermal filler is injected into or under the skin, it adds volume instantly and more so over the coming weeks as it draws in water. Because HA resembles the body’s own natural tissue, it integrates easily into the areas injected. Dermal fillers are used to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve volume loss in larger areas such as cheeks, enhance lip volume or to augment other areas of the face harmonising the proportions of a face.
Treatments last approximately 6-18 months depending on several factors including the type, placement and amount of filler used.
PRP therapy is the use of your own blood (platelets) to help accelerate and promote the body’s natural healing and rejuvenation process.
PRP is obtained by taking a small amount of blood from the patients arm via a special tube, placing it into a centrifuge, and then spinning it to separate the red blood cells from the plasma. The plasma is then prepared for injection into the treatment area. When used cosmetically, the remodelling of collagen fibres improves skin tone and promotes a long-term smoothing of skin tissue, thickness and texture. PRP is also used successfully as a treatment for hair loss, and is used across a wide range of other disciplines such as In orthopaedics, wound care and gynaecology.
A minimum of 3 treatments are required 4-6 weeks apart with a once yearly treatment for maintenance.
PDO threads are used to help stimulate collagen and improve elasticity and firmness of the skin, and is especially great to use in areas that are difficult to treat with filler or anti-wrinkle treatments.
The threads are made from PDO (polydiaxanone) which is very similar to that of dissolvable sutures used during surgical procedures. The smooth thread comes pre-threaded onto a very fine needle, it is then inserted into the dermal layer of the skin and placed in a mesh like fashion, overlapping and giving strength and structure to the area treated. The threads are absorbed over the next 3 months encouraging collagen & elastin production . An immediate improvement can be noticeable, but it is around 3 months where the result will be most noticeable with improvement in the firmness and elasticity of the skin.
Treatment is reviewed at 3 months and results are expected to last for approximately one year or more.
